Due to wheat intolerance I’ve been eating gluten-free for over 10 years and my biggest temptation is bread!  Crusty white bread is the biggest cause of me falling off the gluten-free wagon and that fall always ends in the thud of weeks of my body trying to fight the symptoms of wheat intolerance.

I have been looking for and experimenting with recipes to try get a gluten-free bread that actually resembles bread but it’s very hard to get gluten-free ingredients to taste and act like gluten ingredients.  There are a lot of products on the supermarket shelves these days for people who can’t have gluten, but again they don’t taste like real bread and they are chock full of all sorts of ingredients, including lots of sugar, to try and cover up the fact that they are not real bread or cake or whatever item they are trying to be a substitute for.   So I’m always very excited when I find a recipe that, although not the real thing, is a very agreeable substitute.

Last week I came across a recipe for gluten-free crumpets and gave them a try.  To my delight they are really good! Hot off the pan with butter melting on them … Yum! Yum!  This is an easy recipe without a lot of weird and hard to find ingredients.

You can find the recipe in full with step by step instructions including photos in the link below:

Another thing I miss a lot is pizza. I love pizza!  Yes, you can buy gluten-free pizzas, but they don’t taste that good and again packed with lots of ingredients and calories I don’t really want.  Thankfully I found an easy and delicious gluten-free pizza base recipe and it’s not too hard or time consuming.  This one comes courtesy of Jamie Oliver.  Check out his full recipe for pizza and many others in the link below:

I still haven’t found a gluten-free sandwich bread which I like, so if you have any suggestions of recipes to try please leave them in the comments below.  Happy gluten-free baking!!!!
